On this momentous day, January 1, 2026, we are proud to announce that the complete Medal of Honor packet for Sergeant Marquees Antwon Quick has been officially submitted to the U.S. Army Human Resources Command (HRC) for initial review. This packet, years in the making, details SGT Quick's extraordinary heroism on August 19, 2006, in Ramadi, Iraq, where he deliberately positioned himself to absorb the blasts from four enemy grenades, saving the lives of his three teammates at the ultimate cost.
SGT Quick, serving with 2nd Platoon, F Troop, 1st Cavalry Regiment (BRT), 1st Brigade, 1st Armored Division, was on a rooftop overwatch mission when insurgents launched a coordinated attack. Positioned closest to the stairwell, a clear escape route, he instead advanced toward the grenades, shielding his teammates. His selfless act preserved their lives and the unit's combat effectiveness amid relentless enemy fire, including RPGs and small arms.
This submission is bolstered by new evidence uncovered in 2023 and updated in 2025, including sworn statements, a detailed 3D reconstruction report, and endorsements from military leaders. Although SGT Quick was awarded the Bronze Star Medal and Purple Heart at the time, the fog of war and operational demands delayed full recognition of his valor, which mirrors that of MoH recipients like Cpl. Jason Dunham and PO2 Michael Monsoor.
Key developments:
Congressional representatives have sent letters to the Secretary of the Army and the Army Chief of Staff, urging an official review.
The Vietnam Veterans of America has forwarded a letter requesting Senate support to key leaders in Alabama, SGT Quick's home state.
Now, it's time to act. We need your help to ensure SGT Quick receives the nation's highest honor.
